ipod sync settings - stop songs from being erased
March 23rd 2006 @ 3:46 pm ipod, iTunes

Over the months I have completed a fair number of the get a free ipod schemes that are out there. People at work, school, friends etc, constantly ask how they make it so their ipod does not sync with their itunes library automatically. For those of you who feel stupid because you can’t figure it out, I wouldn’t be so hasty to get down on yourself. One of my fellow programmers at one of the places I work couldn’t figure it out either and he writes software for a living. So for that reason I have put together this simple tutorial about how to change the settings in itunes.

Step 1. Open itunes and select edit then preferences as shown in step1.jpg

Step 2. This should bring up a box with different tabs. You should see an ipod tab. If you don’t you have other problems like your ipod is not plugged in or itunes hasn’t detected it yet or something else. On the ipod tab as shown below you’ll notice in red is highlighted two things. Make sure that you have checkedManually manage songs and playlists” and that “Automatically update all songs and playlistsis not checked. That’s it. You should be able to connect your ipod to other computers without having all your songs wiped clean.
